Support Services

Location: 8333 Maple Street
Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Support Services supervisor is also responsible for the Garage, the Recycling Shop, and the Refuse Shop.

Support Services provides general moving, excavation, and delivery services. Please see How to Request Special Services.

  • Furniture moving - Moving of furniture from one office or building to another is funded by the department requesting service. Support Services provides labor and moving equipment as needed. The requesting department is expected to have all items suitably packed prior to the move. Although every effort will be made to assure safe handling, all damages and losses are the risk of the requesting department.
  • Furniture pool - A limited amount of surplus reusable furniture is stored at 8333 Maple Street by Facilities Services for Property Management. With the prior clearance of Property Management (865-5219), Facilities will remove items from storage, make necessary repairs if desired, and deliver them to the requested location as funded by the requesting department.
  • Furniture rental - Items such as tables, chairs, tents, and party goods can be rented through Support Services. Charges will be based on actual man-hour expenditures.
  • On an as-needed basis, temporary manpower is hired from a local agency to assist in accomplishing high volumes of scheduled work for a particular period. These temporary are not permitted to operate university vehicles or equipment and are unfamiliar with the campus and established procedures.

    The Support Services Shop funds:

  • Backup assistance for other Facilities Services shops to include operating forklifts, backhoe diggers, and air compressors
  • Each department funds:

  • Moving furniture and equipment. This ranges from moving a single desk to moving an entire department from one building or floor to another
  • Set-up of tables, chairs, and stage for commencement and other special events and returning same to storage
  • Biweekly delivery of supplies and equipment from Central Stores to all campus departments
  • Excavation for new or damaged underground utility lines to include: steam, electric, sewer, gas, chilled water, and telephone
  • Collecting and hauling trash from residence halls, including old mattresses, pallets, and broken furniture
  • Pick-up of bulk mailings for Admissions and Business School and delivery to downtown Post Office
  • Pick-up and delivery of surplus furniture and equipment to and from the Belle Chasse bunkers
