Cleaning

Facilities Services funds:

  • Routine custodial services to academic buildings.

Department funds:

  • Cleaning services for special events

Carpentry

Facilities Services funds:

    Routine maintenance and repair of:
  • Classroom chairs and writing desks
  • Broken glass in windows or doors
  • Stair treads or handrails
  • Sheetrock and dry walls (excluding vandalism)
  • Baseboards, molding, or carpet (tacking or gluing)
  • Missing or damaged ceiling tiles
  • Bathroom furnishings and ceramic tiles
  • Dispensers of paper towels, toilet paper, or hand soap

Electrical

Facilities Services funds:

  • Unscheduled/emergency repairs and regular scheduled preventive maintenance to all electrical systems and elevators.

    Inspection and maintenance of:
  • Lamp (bulb) and ballast replacement in all academic buildings
  • Campus lighting (fluorescent, incandescent and high intensity discharge)
  • Campus high voltage systems and main distribution systems, including underground network electrical loops, G&W gas switches, transformer vaults, transformers and secondary electrical feeders, circuit breaker panels, electric motors, and motor controllers
  • Electrical wiring
  • Receptacles, switches, exhaust hoods, and conduit systems
  • Elevators

Department funds:

  • Renovation and new construction of the above systems

Grounds Shop

Facilities Services funds:

  • Normal grounds maintenance in academic and housing areas and control of roaches, ants, termites, and rats in academic buildings

  • Setup and cleanup from special events, such as TGIF's and graduation
  • Installation of banners
  • Rental and delivery of potted plants for special events
  • Pest control in non-academic areas
  • New installations or renovations

Key and Sign Shop

Facilities Services funds:

  • Routine maintenance of locks, door-opening mechanisms, panic hardware, and card readers
  • Routine maintenance of door checks, door stops, and hinges
  • Signs for room numbers
  • Emergency call-outs for repair (NOT for lock-outs or rekeying)

Department funds:

  • Cutting of extra door keys
  • Desk or file cabinet keys or locks
  • Repairs to office areas other than routine maintenance
  • Replacement of unbroken hardware with a different type of hardware
  • Desk nameplates and department identification signs
  • Emergency call-outs for lock-outs and rekeying
  • Recoring of offices, files, desks
  • Opening of offices, files, desks when keys are lost
  • Replacing touchpad locks that have failed due to tampering or vandalism

Life Safety

Facilities Services funds:

  • Fire extinguishers and cabinets, hoses, and alarm system devices for academic buildings.
  • Installation, inspection, and maintenance services for this equipment.

Department funds:

  • Renovation or replacement of Life Safety systems

Plumbing

Facilities Services funds:

  • Maintenance and repair on all campus buildings.

    Unscheduled/emergency repairs and regular preventive maintenance for:
  • Sinks, toilets, urinals
  • Sewer lines; water lines; vacuum and air lines; gas lines; gas barbecue pits
  • Sump pumps, hot water circulating pumps
  • Water heaters, floor furnaces
  • Air conditioning drains
  • Water softeners, water distillation equipment
  • Sprinkler systems

Department funds:

  • Renovation or new construction of above systems

Recycling

Facilities Services funds:

  • Daily pickup of recyclable material from all academic buildings
  • Transport of materials to appropriate recycling stations
  • Daily pick-up and hauling of Recycling from all residence halls, food service areas, faculty houses, and other auxiliary enterprises
  • Blue containers for collection of recyclables

Department funds:

  • Special pick-ups of recyclable material and confidential materials

Refuse

Facilities Services funds:

  • Collection and disposal of non-recyclable waste items
  • Cleaning campus refuse sites and providing odor control when necessary

Department funds:

  • Disposal of bulk items such as furniture.
  • Special pickups upon request.
  • Providing dumpsters for construction projects and office moves.

Support Services Shop

Facilities Services funds:

  • Backup assistance for FS to include operating forklifts, backhoe diggers, and air compressors

Note: Please submit requests on an Interdepartmental Order form (I.T.).

  • General moving, excavation, and delivery services
  • Furniture moving - Moving of furniture from one office to another, one building to another, or to storage at the Hebert Center in Belle Chasse is funded by the department requesting service. Upon request to Customer Service , Ext. 5445, Facilities will provide labor, boxes, and equipment handling needed to complete the move. The requesting department is expected to have all items suitably packed prior to the move. Although every effort will be made to assure safe handling, all damages and losses are the risk of the requesting department.
  • Furniture pool - A limited amount of surplus reusable furniture is stored at the Hebert Center by Facilities for the Property Manager (Purchasing Agent). With the prior clearance of the Property Manager (Ext. 5219), Facilities will remove items from storage, make necessary repairs if desired, and deliver them to the requested location as funded by the requesting department.
  • Furniture rental - Items such as tables, chairs, tents, and party goods can be rented through Support Services by submitting a job order or an Interdepartmental Order form (I.T.) to Customer Service. Charges for this service will be based on actual man-hour expenditures.
  • Moving furniture and equipment. This ranges from moving a single desk to moving an entire department from one building or floor to another
  • Excavation for new or damaged underground utility lines to include: steam, electric, sewer, gas, chilled water, and telephone
  • Set-up of tables, chairs, and stage for commencement and other special events and returning same to storage
  • Collecting and hauling trash from residence halls, including old mattresses, pallets, and broken furniture
  • Pick-up of bulk mailings for Admissions and Business School and delivery to downtown Post Office
  • Pick-up and delivery of surplus furniture and equipment to and from the Belle Chasse bunkers

Utilities (Machine Shop, Power Plant, Instrumentation)

Facilities Services funds:

  • Maintenance and repair of mechanical systems in all campus buildings. Window units, direct expansion (DX or package) systems, water coolers, refrigeration equipment, chilled water units and the central plant system serving academic buildings and residence halls. Maintenance and repair of controls for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in all campus buildings.

    Unscheduled/emergency repairs and regular preventive maintenance for:
  • Steam lines, steam traps, chilled water lines
  • Air handlers
  • Chilled water pumps, heating hot water pumps, outside sump pumps, fire pumps, condensate pumps
  • Boilers
  • Chillers
  • Cooling towers
  • Operates and maintains the central plant, which generates steam and chilled water for heating and cooling of most campus buildings. It also responds to certain service calls
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) operating costs for all academic buildings Routine, preventive, and unscheduled/emergency maintenance of air conditioners (window units and DX units) in academic buildings and residence halls
  • Maintenance of built-in drinking fountains
  • Heating and cooling systems
  • Thermostat calibration
  • Air handler controls
  • Pneumatic, electronic, and digital controls

Department funds:

  • Renovation or new construction of above systems
  • HVAC costs for residence halls, faculty houses, and auxiliary services, including food services and athletics (billed annually by Interdepartmental Transfer, IT)
  • Renovation or replacement of HVAC systems
  • Refrigerators (portable and laboratory)
  • Freezers and walk-in coolers
  • Fans (portable or pedestal)
  • Athletics and University Services air conditioning and refrigeration
